FAQ:

    Question Answer
How many snap files are available per day? Only one EOD snap at 5PM local time of each region
What is Electric Capacity trading ? Electric Capacity trading refers to the buying and selling of capacity resources through capacity markets operated by independent system operators (ISOs) and regional transmission organizations (RTOs). Capacity markets allow market participants (generators, demand response providers, etc.) to offer their capacity resources through competitive auctions run by the ISO/RTO. Resources that clear the auction receive capacity payments for committing to be available to provide energy or reduce load when called upon in the future delivery year. The capacity clearing prices are determined by the supply/demand dynamics and sloped demand curves used in the auctions.
What is ISO ? "ISO" stands for Independent System Operator. An Independent System Operator (ISO) is an organization that coordinates, controls and monitors the operation of the electrical power system within a particular region or area. ISOs manage the transmission grid and operate the wholesale electricity markets, including spot markets and futures markets, in their respective regions. Electricity futures contracts traded on exchanges like NYMEX and ICE are often based on the prices published by the ISO for specific locations or zones within the ISO's footprint.
What is CAISO ? NP15 and SP15 are the two main pricing hubs or zones in the California ISO (CAISO) market. NP15 stands for "North Path 15" and represents the northern region of California, including the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, and northern parts of the state. SP15 stands for "South Path 15" and represents the southern region of California, including Los Angeles, San Diego, and surrounding areas.
what is NYISO? The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) divides the state into 11 electric pricing zones or load zones for the purpose of managing the wholesale electricity market and transmission system. NYISO Load Zones 1. West Zone: Zones A, B, C, D, E 2. East Zone: Zone F 3. Lower Hudson Valley Zone: Zones G, H, I 4. New York City Zone: Zones J, K The key points about the NYISO load zones are: Zones A-E comprise the West region, covering western New York. Zone F is the East region, covering the Capital District and eastern New York. Zones G-I make up the Lower Hudson Valley region. Zones J (New York City) and K (Long Island) comprise the New York City region and are the main load centers.
What is Mass Hub? The Massachusetts Hub, commonly referred to as the Mass Hub, is a key pricing location within the ISO New England control area used for electricity trading and settlement of financial products. The Mass Hub is a collection of locations in central Massachusetts where little transmission congestion is evident, making it a liquid trading point for electricity contracts. Financial products based on the Mass Hub include futures contracts settled against the day-ahead peak and off-peak hourly electricity prices published by ISO New England for this location. These allow market participants to hedge against or speculate on future electricity prices. ISO New England operates the bulk power grid across the six New England states and administers the region's wholesale electricity markets, including the day-ahead and real-time energy markets where the Mass Hub prices are determined.
What Mid-Columbia (Mid-C) hub? The Mid-Columbia (Mid-C) hub is a major electricity trading hub located in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Here are the key points about the Mid-C hub. It comprises the control areas of three public utility districts in Washington state - Grant, Douglas, and Chelan - that operate hydroelectric projects along the Columbia River. Major hydroelectric dams included in the Mid-C hub are Wells, Rocky Reach, Rock Island, Wanapum, and Priest Rapids. It represents an aggregation of the electricity market for the Northwest region.
What is Palo Verde trading hub?/td> The Palo Verde trading hub is a major electricity trading point located in southwestern Arizona, near the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station. Here are the key points about the Palo Verde trading hub.It is a key selling point for wholesale electricity sales into the Desert Southwest region, including southern California and Arizona.
What is PJM ? PJM is a regional transmission organization (RTO) that coordinates the movement of wholesale electricity in all or parts of 13 states and the District of Columbia. PJM stands to Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland Interconnection.
What is Electricity Forward Agreement (EFA)? Electricity Forward Agreement (EFA) is a type of forward contract used in electricity markets where two parties agree to buy or sell a specified amount of electricity at a predetermined price for delivery at a future date. An EFA protects buyers against volatile spot prices by fixing their electricity price for a specified future period, creating more certainty and price risk coverage in the market. A forward contract like an EFA is a fixed-term agreement between two parties for the delivery of an agreed amount of energy (electricity). The buyer commits to purchasing that electricity quantity for the agreed period at the pre-determined contract price. EFAs are part of the broader forward market for electricity, which allows buyers and sellers to agree on and lock in electricity prices far in advance of the actual delivery timeframe. EFAs can be physical contracts where physical electricity is delivered at the specified time, or financial contracts which are cash-settled based on the contract price. The forward market, including EFAs and power purchase agreements (PPAs), plays a crucial role in providing long-term price signals and funding for investments in electricity generation, including renewable sources. So in essence, an Electricity Forward Agreement is a type of forward contract widely used in electricity markets that allows a buyer to purchase a fixed volume of electricity at a pre-agreed price for delivery at some point in the future, providing price certainty and hedging against spot market volatility
